92% of New Years Resolutions Fail and 55% of Americans Dont Even Try; Learn The Hidden Quantum Principle That Makes Most People Fail, But Can Help You Succeed

Sherman Oaks, CA (PRWEB) December 31, 2013

Millions of people want to lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking, manage stress, find more love and improve their lives, but the Journal of Clinical Psychology reports that 55% of Americans don’t even bother making New Year’s resolutions, and 92% of the resolutions that are made ultimately fail.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg… Everyone knows 95% of diets fail, but most don't know that over 95% of 12 step programs fail, 95% of people wanting financial independence fail, 95% of people who watched the "Secret" and tried all the self-help programs fail and are still struggling, frustrated and buying the next book or program.

There is something really wrong with this picture! If a computer failed 95% of the time it would be fixed or replaced. If an airline failed 95% of the time it would go out of business… but in health, psychology and personal growth the same old Diets, Therapy, Medication, Stress Management, Meditation, New Year’s Resolutions, Being in the Moment and Positive Thinking fails over 95% of the time, but doctors, therapists, mothers, trainers, gurus, and the thousands of self-help books and articles keep promoting the same ideas.

Einstein said, "The definition of insanity is: Doing the same things and expecting a different result! And the tragedy of this is every time someone tries and fails again with this old advice, they wind up feeling worse about themselves.

There has to be a better way, and there is. About 33 years ago Ti Caine C.H.T., a Hypnotherapist, Healer, Futurist, Author and Life Coach learned a "hidden" metaphysical concept from a being named Lazaris, and this concept turns psychology on its head, changes the paradigm of how we think reality works and it explains all those failures.

Quantum physics proves that everything is made of energy, and that beliefs direct the energy to produce reality, but there is another truth that has never been widely exposed before, and that is:

"THE FUTURE CREATES THE PRESENT!"

Stephen Covey in "The Seven Habits" found that highly effective people "Begin with the end in mind!" This makes sense and changes everything… Religion and Psychology look mostly at the past, and New Thought practices are all about "Being in the Now", but that's like driving a car while focusing on the rear view mirror!

"The Future Creates The Present" shows that without working on the long range future then everything else is just "Re-arranging The Deck Chairs on the Titanic!"

Ti has studied people and their relationship with the future for over 30 years and he is the only therapist in the world that has developed an entire psychological model based on the power of the future. In developing the FutureVisioning™ Process (http://www.futurevisioning.com) Ti has worked with thousands of people and found that over 95% of them were programmed since childhood to believe their future would be difficult and painful. This is the fatal flaw. No wonder therapy, healing and all those growth processes rarely work.

Especially in the area of weight loss, studies show that overweight people, from childhood on, see themselves in their imagination and in their future as being fat, and even if they lose weight, it takes up to 18 months of being thin before they can imagine themselves being thin. The FutureVisioning™ Process turns this around and helps people create a vision of the future where they are thin, BEFORE starting any weight loss or exercise program.

Ti helps individuals, couples, executives and organizations to design an inspiring future and then takes them on a visualization to actually step into that awesome future to meet their healthy, thin and happy future self. Then their New Year’s resolutions or their goals can happen rather easily, because every day they are stepping into a bright and familiar future.

So the most empowering exercise anyone can do is to go to http://www.futurevisioning.com/newyears.html and get the Free FutureVisioning™ Worksheets that help you design an ideal long-term future, a Free 3 minute FutureVisioning™ meditation, and Ti's new ebook "From Agony to Ecstasy" which was co-written with Valerie Lemme who transformed her relationship, her body and her healing practice through FutureVisioning™.

As individuals, couples, and organizations learn to create healthy, happy and successful futures, the whole world will become a better place!

Ti Caine is a Hypnotherapist, Healer, Futurist, Author, Speaker, Life Coach and creator of the FutureVisioning™ Process. For totally unique personal and executive coaching, key notes and trainings he can be reached at:

Thoughts About Online Dating Services to Help Find Lovers, Mates, Sweethearts

I know people who have met over the Internet and found a woman or a man and managed to develop loving or caring relationships. There were others that didn’t because they didn’t set any goals.

It’s extremely important to realize one must first determine what it is you are looking for among the possibilities that may or will appear. Some serious soul searching must be accomplished first.

What do you want to get out of it? a permanent mate, a lover, a date or a companion, you get the idea? Anything that enters your mind can be applicable.

Just don’t dive into trying to get a one on one date because you’re impatient. You may end up disappointed and sorry. You might end up becoming a cause of consternation to your potential new friend. Bide your time in getting to know someone.

Most dating or matching services want you fill out a profile of yourself. This is one of the most important factors that will help in finding that future lover or sweetheart of your heart’s desire. A profile used correctly may help you find him/her. Your profile will help find you.

Caution! The picture presented to you might be an old photo taken 15 years ago. A woman of about 39 years met a man but at first didn’t recognize him. She couldn’t believe her eyes. He now had a mustache and looked like Hitler. He also was in his 60′s. It didn’t work out.

Try out several descriptions under different names. Remembering anonymity is a two way street. So how will one know if that photo is the latest or a recent? You won’t until you both meet.

Be cautious and have patience. Learn to be a listener. Don’t go overboard selling yourself. Learn about each other. Leave an enticing air of mystery about you. You may find it results in a chemical reaction when you both meet

At first use e-mail to communicate or send a message. Use caution and do not give your telephone number too soon. You don’t want to harassed by weirdo’s or unhappy prospects.

A profile is the first shot for folks to decide whether or not they would have an interest. It makes good sense that you design and create a profile as captivating as possible. As an example: A long time ago when I was a young man, I went to a local dance. Who did I ask for a dance? Of course it was the prettiest girl that I hoped to get a date with. So if I presented an attractive presentation she would dance with me. If I were successful, I might get that date.

Be different, be original, be unique

Do some research, read as many profiles as you can and you’ll be amused and enlightened. You’ve got the chance to demonstrate that you’re unique. If possible use different terminology to show your originality. Stay away from the old clichés such as taking walks on the beach. Or, willing to climb the highest mountain for the right person.

Have a Fabulous (and realistic) Photo

A fantastic but tasteful photo is a tremendous asset for your endeavor. No not your driver’s license or passport photo. Make sure your photo is clear and professional. Don’t settle for a simple head shot – there’s no rule to say you can’t be doing something you love in your photo. Smile, smile and smile, you want to look confident. If you are a guy with a beard be certain it’s neat and trimmed ditto for your hair. If you are a gal the same goes for your hair. Don’t overdo the makeup. Be certain your photo is recent.

Make sure the reader can understand it

Using the same terminology as you would when texting a friend should be a no no. The jargon or lexicon may be quite different. If you are not sure, plain old English is the best. Some dating websites have a legend of terminology to provide a level of commonality

Be factual and truthful

In your profile describe your personality real world. If you are a big shot, be a big shot. If you have a great sense of humor, have a sense of humor. If you describe yourself as something you’re not, you can be sure it’s going to bite you on the butt. Remember you are living in the real world. There’s nothing wrong with having a friend or a relative review your profile and be willing to take constructive criticism.

You are not writing an autobiography

A description that is too long will be boring and very possibly detrimental to your efforts. Read you profile and time how long it takes to read it. Read other profiles and time how long it takes to make the point. Note if you are bored, or uninterested or whatever. Don’t let your profile appear in the same fashion to an interested prospect. Try to keep an average reading time from 50 to 90 seconds and not more.

Don’t unveil anything out of the ordinary about yourself

What would you think if your prospective honey said, he/she enjoys running with the bulls every year? I think you get the idea.

Be sure to use correct spelling and grammar

Don’t make the mistake of not proof reading what you have written. Modern word processors have the ability to check spelling and grammar. You don’t want your prospects to think you are a dodo.

Don’t make it sound like you are an egotist

Your best points are the ones to highlight but with humility. You must remember to leave enough space to describe the person you would like find and meet. Form a description but respectful and realistic depiction of your ideal mate. Two words to keep in mind when describing the person you are looking for are, be realistic and respectful. Be completely honest about the personality and physical attributes or traits you are searching for but do so politely.

Be honest and up front about your state in life and what you are looking for

Have kids or are divorced or widowed, don’t hide these facts. Most will find out the truth eventually so you might as well disclose it up front. Look at other profiles on adult and you will see the honesty portrayed.

Post 9/11 US Special Operations Veteran goes after Hollywood's Mission Impossible

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) September 25, 2011

For most military veterans re-acclimation to the private sector can be a real challenge; veteran US Army Ranger, Joel Carpenter should know, he's been doing it since April 2006. In September 2001, Joel walked away from a lifelong ambition to be part of the Hollywood film business when he enlisted at a Hollywood Army Recruiting station and within less than a year became a US Special Operations Army Ranger in the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He was 26 years old. Ten years later he's at it again as the writer/producer of a feature film project entitled ‘Skidboot’. Joel decided to launch the 'Skidboot Film Project' on a crowdfunding website http://www.kickstarter.com. The concept being if you can get enough support behind your idea, the ‘project backers’ will make a financial pledge to assist with funding.

Q: Can you tell us about Skidboot?

A: 'Skidboot' is a heartwarming true story based out of Quinlan, Texas about an ex-rodeo cowboy and his amazing dog named Skidboot. Skidboot pretty much was the real life version of 'Lassie' or 'Old Yeller'. He was on Late Night with David Letterman. Jay Leno called him the smartest dog he has ever known. After being on the Oprah Winfrey Show, he received more fan mail than most of her celebrity guests; so she invited him back. http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Amazing-Dog-Tricks-Video It's a story about Loyalty, Discipline, Love and Companionship. It's about the amazing friendship David Hartwig developed with his K9 companion and how the two of them have literally touched millions of people throughout the world with their story. Our goal is to raise enough money to attach a famous actor or director.”

Q: How did you find the story?

A: "Over the years I had been sent the youtube link entitled 'Skidboot the Amazing Dog'. Every time I viewed it I thought ‘Wow! What an amazing story. This would make a great movie’. Years later I started wondering why I hadn’t seen a movie trailer from Disney Studios or other. I did some research and was able to contact David Hartwig (Skidboot’s owner). When I asked if there was any creative activity with the story, he told me that at one time there was a producer who was interested, but that the interest had died shortly after and so here we are today."

Q: You named your company 'Naretev Productions'; why?

A: "One day I was looking at the word 'Veteran' and suddenly I realized it was naretev (narrative) spelled backwards. This made so much since because a narrative is a retelling of a story and all of us have stories; we don't have to be famous for that. Narratives have a beginning, middle and an end and it is important for all of us to understand that even when we feel like life is dragging us backwards, we are merely forming our narratives and that the end isn't written until we leave this earth. So conceptually, Naretev is the mirror reflection of who a veteran can become on the outside."

Q: So if you could offer any suggestion to the public on assisting a veteran, what would it be?

A: "Empower your veterans, don't feel sorry for them. They are natural leaders and can really stand out in the community. One of the greatest gifts the private sector can offer a transitioning service member is opportunity. Our goal is to achieve that opportunity and then share it with others by paying it forward."

Q: How has your transition been?

A: "Exhausting at times. It's like a giant chess game. There are all these obstacles and road blocks. Some of them are human and some are just circumstantial, but all of them can take your steam. Probably the worst moment was learning that one of my best friends was killed in Afghanistan."

Q: Why do you want to make this movie?

A: "This isn't just a movie. This story will serve as a life lesson for us all. This will be a film you can take your entire family to and walk out feeling inspired with a belief that there is still goodness within us all. Not a lot of movies do that these days and I believe audiences are thirsty for stories like this one. Think about all the films that were initially rejected: films like Star Wars, Rocky and others. If we can't get someone to help us make it, we will make it ourselves. I don't care if it's with my 'Cisco Flip' camcorder, this movie is going to get made."

Q: How can people get involved?

A: They can go to kickstarter.com and search for Skidboot or email us at skidbootmovie(at)aol(dot)com

NYSATA Athletic Trainers Provide Injury Prevention and Management on Movie Set

Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) December 20, 2013

In typical movie fashion, reality does not get in the way of a good story. "Best Man Holiday" tells the story of college friends who re-unite after fifteen years when one of their group is ill and another is about to make sports history. It is the holiday season and Lance (Morris Chestnut), a running back for the NY Giants, is about to break the all-time rushing record, while also dealing with anguish in his personal life.

To add to the allure of the film and get the audience revved up before the final scenes, live football action was added to the film. A specialty company, Game Changing Films, was signed to create explosive, "jump out of your seat" action. Twenty-five former Division I and professional football players were hired, as well as a former football coach to serve as the stunt coordinator and two athletic trainers (ATs) to help keep the 'team' on the field.

Bob O'Malley, MEd, ATC, CES (Excelsior Orthopedics-Williamsville South HS) and CeliaMarie Matias, ATC (Excelsior Orthopedics-St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute), who learned of the opportunity through the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), worked behind the scenes and on-set as the cast's athletic trainers during the football practices and stunt filming. In preparation for the work, they interacted with the Game Changing Films co-founder Jesse Moore, a former Texas Tech soccer athlete, and Tory Bellingham, Best Man Holiday props coordinator, helping connect them with local vendors for the football props and ordering supplies for the athletic training needs.

It took three full days of preparation to lay out the eight plays to be filmed for the movie. Three of the plays were specifically choreographed to provide the 'wow factor' on screen. "'Be prepared for a very short pre-season and several game days' was the message from Jesse Moore," said O'Malley. "Mark Ellis, football stunt coordinator, added 'We can't afford injuries changing who was in the scene one day and not the next'."

Filming took place during four overnights as Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills, took on the Hollywood aura of Giants Stadium. During the filming, there was also a local EMS crew on-site who coordinated care with the athletic trainers. "It was like a typical sports pre-season: work hard for short periods, provide treatments as necessary in-between sessions, network locally with medical providers for the athletes (actors), and "be-ready" on the field when you knew the big hit was coming," explained O'Malley, who also serves as the Region 7 Representative (western NYS) for the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association (NYSATA).

Although there were a few injuries to attend to – only one significant enough to refer to an orthopedist – the time spent preparing everyone for the action paid off. To help prevent injuries, the ATs ran the 'team' through a functional warm-up prior to every practice session and after long layoffs during filming. Combining the active warm-up with treatments behind the scenes there was nearly no time lost on set.

The skills and experience of athletic trainers are ideal for movie productions. Even the actors, including lead actor Morris Chestnut, realized the value of having ATs on site as a resource and took advantage of their skills between scenes. By the end of one night even the make-up artist wanted in on a few secrets of the trade.

O'Malley emphasized, "As an AT on a movie set, you need to be capable of making game-day decisions and treatments to keep the actors safely in the scene. But, when necessary, you also need to be prepared and able to access further medical care for them." On her view of the experience, Matias adds, "There were some pretty long days, but aside from it being overnight it was no different than working football two-a-day practices. Everyone on set, from the athletes, actors and directors were a pleasure to work with. It was honestly one of the best experiences of my professional career."

The New York State Athletic Trainers' Association (NYSATA), founded in 1976 and incorporated in 1989, stands to advance, encourage and improve the profession of athletic training (AT) by developing the common interests of its membership for the purpose of enhancing the quality of healthcare for the physically active in NYS. Athletic training is practiced by certified athletic trainers, who have expertise in the assessment, emergency management, rehabilitation and prevention of acute and chronic sport-related injuries, illnesses and conditions, including concussions. Comprised of over 1,200 certified and practicing athletic trainers, NYSATA is the state-wide affiliate of the regional Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association (EATA) and District Two of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).

It may have been your fault, maybe you cheated maybe you were admittedly not the kindest person that you could have been to your boyfriend and now he has left you. And you never thought you would take it as hard as you are but now you realize just how much you had.

Do not worry and do not give up hope that the relationship is completely over. First of all if the relationship was a solid one at all then it is worth putting back together. But you are going to have to do some work before you can begin that process.

Essentially there will be 5 steps to getting your boyfriend back:

1) You will need to carefully evaluate the relationship as it was
2) You will need to consider precisely (to the best of your knowledge) what went wrong
3) You will need to decide if you are willing to make the efforts required to get the relationship back on track
4) You will need to determine where you stand with your ex
5) You will need to develop a plan that is built around creating the type of relationship that both of you desire

If you noticed, each of those steps started with something that you will need to do. In other words this is going to take work and effort. So if your heart is not in this then you should let it go now.

I probably should have mentioned that it is essential that even before you begin with step one that you take a good hard look at yourself. The reason I say that is because after a break up many people tend to let themselves go. They may have poor eating habits which can lead to weight loss or gains and sometimes they even tire of personal hygiene routines.

It is important that you keep in mind that you must take care of yourself before you attempt to repair a broken relationship. If you do not you will find that you are trying to do two things at once and the work will be doubled.

If after evaluating your relationship you decide that it is one worth saving then you should move on to step two. At that point you need to consider what went wrong. Do your best to be unbiased. In relationships most problems can be contributed to both partners to some degree.

Consider what changes you can make to create a better relationship and decide if you can live with those changes on an ongoing basis. You really do not want to repeat another break up in a few months from now because you are tired of the change!

Determine if your ex is interested in repairing the relationship at all. If not then this will take a lot of effort. It does not mean that the relationship cannot be repaired but it does mean that you will have to work a little or a lot harder to repair the damages.

Then when you and your ex decide to work things out the two of you need to decide together what would make your relationship one that is stronger and more wonderful than before. Anything worthwhile is worth planning. Take your time and do it right. I always suggest that you build a relationship on a foundation of friendship because during hard times that friendship will hold you together.

The Female Brain

The Female Brain

Why are women more verbal than men? Why do women remember details of fights that men can't remember at all? Why do women tend to form deeper bonds with their female friends than men do with their male counterparts? These and other questions have stumped both sexes throughout the ages.

Now, pioneering neuropsychiatrist Louann Brizendine, M.D., brings together the latest findings to show how the unique structure of the female brain determines how women think, what they value, how they co

What psychology is behind guy friends ripping on each other?

Question by Terry: What psychology is behind guy friends ripping on each other?
I don’t mean all of them, I have about three good guy friends and we never rip on each other but we definitely seem to be an exception to the rule. Most guys, from high school to college, like to call each other names all the time even though they are friends. I was just wondering why they do that? Like not a “just because” but what type of psychology it involves?

Best answer:

Answer by rugby-love
This is my point of view : (I’m a girl by the way) guys seem to like to compete with one another to see who is the ‘strongest’ it’s like wolves. Who will be the ‘leader of the pack’? They verbally abuse eachother to make the other one feel little hence making him stronger/bigger than everyone else. They also do it to impress girls.

RoadFish.com Learns of Credit Report Used in Courtroom

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 24, 2013

RoadFish.com mens lifestyle and finance magazine today issued their statement regarding the recent discovery of yet another way credit reports can be used against a consumer: in a court of law. RoadFish.com responds to a Forbes article detailing an incident where one partys claim was discounted by bringing her credit report under scrutiny in the courtroom, and the online magazine warns consumers not to say anything about their finances that their credit report cannot back upor vice versa, lie about anything that their report cant disprove.

On May 19, 2013, Adam Levin of Forbes reported that most people understand the importance of credit reports when it comes to the likes of applying for credit cards, mortgages, auto loans and student loans. Even applying for jobs these days comes with the chance that a potential employer will run a credit check to aid in their hiring decision. However Levin states that U.S. lawyers have recently discovered a new place for credit reports to be used against people, and that is in divorce proceedings particularly when discussing alimony.

RoadFish.com is not surprised to see yet another avenue that credit reports are popping up in, and makes a prediction about where credit in the U.S. is headed. RoadFish.coms Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, Our country puts a major emphasis on credit scores and credit reports. There are other counties that dont use them as much, even at all, but here in the U.S. we use them for many, many things having to do with finance. Those who believe credit reports and scores are only needed when dealing with borrowing money could not be more wrong. Theyre used to rent apartments, get jobs, and apparently now when you get divorced too. Im not shocked to see that credit reports are being used in court hearings at all. In fact, I think that credit reports will only continue to be used in more ways, for more purposes.

For much of the above-mentioned Forbes article, Levin quotes his friend John Ulzheimer, a former Equifax and Credit.com employee who knows his share about the ins and outs of credit and credit reports. Ulzheimer states that during a recent divorce trial he was asked to testify at due to the nature of his professional credit experience, the soon-to-be-ex-wife was requesting she receive a big alimony from her soon-to-be-ex-husband as she claimed she had no access to credit. Her husbands legal representation found a hole in her claim however when her credit report proved that she had been added as an authorized used to her new boyfriends credit cards and in fact had access to $ 50,000 in combined credit lines. Ulzheimer is quoted as saying, The fact that she was an authorized user began showing up on her credit reports about 30 days after the boyfriend agreed to authorization. At that point she could not longer suggest that she had no access to credit.

RoadFish.com offers a sincere recommendation to readers that they be careful of their financial claims unless they are sure their credit reports can back up their words. RoadFish.coms Senior staff writer is quoted as saying, Your credit report is a pretty good representation of your past and current financial background, and though there may be a few inaccuracies for their most part they speak the truth. Like emails, written contracts, and recorded phone conversations they can certainly be used as proof of one thing or another. So dont claim anything that you cant back up with your credit reportdont lie about never being late on a payment if your credit report shows otherwiseand dont claim something that your credit report can disprove, like saying you have no access to credit when your credit report clearly reveals that you have tons of credit.

In the above-mentioned Forbes article, Ulzheimer is quoted as saying, The moral of the story is simple: If you want to convince someone that you dont have access to credit then you better assume that your credit reports are going to be subject to review by opposing counsel. And while credit reports take a lot of heat as being supposedly loaded with errors, they often tell a very clear story as to whether or not youve got access to credit lines. They simply dont miss much when it comes to relationships with creditors.

Tickets on sale now!About Devendra Banhart

For his Nonesuch debut, Devendra Banhart chose the title Mala, literally the Serbian word for "small," but used colloquially in Eastern Europe as a term of endearment-"like sweetie pie," Banhart explains. It was a placeholder during most of the recording, a working title offhandedly inspired by a ring his fiancée, the Serbian photographer and artist Ana Kras, had given him with that word on it. But the name stuck, and it proves to an apt one for an album so intimate in scale and open of heart.

Banhart's previous effort, 2009's What Will We Be, took him to Northern California where he cut the disc accompanied by a full band and producer Paul Butler behind the board. Conversely, Mala, his eighth studio album, took shape back in his own "tiny, tiny home" in Los Angeles, where Banhart until recently resided. He and longtime cohort Noah Georgeson produced it together, playing most of the instruments themselves, using borrowed equipment and a vintage recorder they'd found in a pawn shop. The recorder is a couple of decades' old piece of gear "that a lot of early hip-hop had been made on," says Banhart. "And knowing my songs are not hip-hop whatsoever, we thought it would be interesting to see how these kinds of songs would sound on equipment that was used to record our favorite rap. Let's see how this technology would work for us."

The arrangements, beguiling yet relatively unadorned, harken back to Banhart's earliest recordings, the do-it-yourself tracks that first garnered him acclaim a decade ago. The songs themselves, though, are less fractured fairy tales than real or artfully imagined depictions of the vicissitudes of romance, even if Banhart does lace his often seductive delivery with liberal doses of surreal humor.

These days Banhart appears more suave than shamanistic, though his gently delivered words still have an incantatory quality. His trademark falsetto warble is often supplanted by a lower-registered croon, especially when he vocalizes in Spanish on a track like "Mi Negrita"-a song he conjured up while envisioning himself "in an oversized suit, slightly sweaty" on the set of the Venezuelan variety show Super Sabado Sensacional, a program he'd watch as a child growing up in Caracas in the '80s.

"In Spanish, I can have a lot more flexibility," Banhart admits. "I have a limited vocabulary-in English and in Spanish-but with Spanish I can get more into the sound of the words, I can have more fun with it. I can even get more autobiographical in Spanish. I feel comfortable revealing more, expressing something sincere about trauma or pain, which is not really a space I'm comfortable occupying. I can take things further in Spanish."

Speaking of his native tongue, Banhart acknowledges that "mala" in Spanish is the feminine form of "bad," and, given the more outré, gender-bending garb he donned earlier in his career-featured most notoriously in a fashion spread for the New York Times' T style magazine-he jokes, "I could be that bad female."

A hint of darkness does exist around the periphery of Mala, bracketing the album, in fact. The opening cut, "Golden Girls" is downbeat and bass-heavy, evoking a young man isolated on a dance floor. Closing number "Taurabolium"-named after the altar/structure from ancient pagan ritual upon which a bull was slain, its blood pouring onto a white-robed priest below-is basically a syncopated chant: "I can't keep myself from evil." Banhart was thinking West Side Story when he arranged the tune, its finger-snapping rhythm coming from "a switchblade, a chain, a whip, and a box full of glass that we just stomped on."

Mostly, though, the mood is lighthearted, mischievous, and, on a reverie like "Daniel," pleasantly nostalgic. On "Für Hildegard von Bingen," he casts a contemporary life for the 12th-century Catholic mystic and composer: "In my head there was this little movie, an alternative universe, I guess-Hildegard is sequestered in her cloister, and one day she gets a VHS cassette and it's the prime era of the MTV VJ, and she just goes wild. 'That's it for me,' she says. 'That's how I'm going to get my message across.' So she escapes the cloister…and becomes a VJ." On "Fine Petting Duck," he duets with his fiancée Kras or, more precisely, duels with her as they portray ex-lovers with very different perspectives on their relationship. She wants to get back with him; he reminds her, in their wry call-and-response, what a thoughtless boyfriend he actually was. (And somewhere along the way, Banhart and Kras switch-inscrutably, amusingly-from English to German as the arrangement morphs from a '50s-tinged R&B/Doo-wop/Mickey and Silvia-type vibe to a Teutonic house beat.) The anti-romantic banter is more playful, even more honest, than your average love song; Banhart admits, "It's so hard for me to write a sincere love song. It's got to be about what a piece-of-shit relationship we're in now, always, somehow. But there are some sincere things here obviously-they're all sincere, really, but you have to keep a sense of humor about it."

Banhart emerged seemingly out of nowhere in 2002 with his first CD collection, Oh Me Oh My…The Way the Day Goes By the Sun Is Setting Dogs Are Dreaming Lovesongs of the Christmas Spirit, compiled by Swans frontman Michael Gira for his Young God label from homemade recordings the itinerant Banhart had amassed as he traveled the world. He was born Devendra Obi Banhart in Houston, Texas, but spent his childhood in Caracas, Venezuela; as a teenager, his family returned to the States, relocating in Southern California, where he soon became enamored of skateboard culture. "Ballad of Keenan Milton," in fact, is an homage to the legendary skateboarder, who died tragically in 2001 in a freak accident.

Music was always a passion for Banhart, and he discovered it in ways both magical and haphazard. As a boy in Caracas, says Banhart," I was surrounded by salsa, merengue, cumbia, some bossa nova-that was ubiquitous, you'd hear it on any street. But oh my God, at home we had Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction and the Rolling Stones' Hot Licks. I don't know what these things are, I don't know who these artists are, I'm just eight years old, but I know I want to do that, I want to sing like these people." In what could be an excerpt from a David Sedaris monologue, Banhart claims he found his own voice one day when he was home alone and impetuously donned one of his mother's dresses, grabbed her hair brush and started to sing. What came out-wobbly, high-pitched-didn't resemble Axl Rose or Mick Jagger, but it was a prepubescent sound he could call his own, a touchstone, something that echoed, years later, in the falsetto of his early albums. In high school, Banhart became obsessed with rocksteady, bluebeat, and ska, which he'd learned about via skateboarding videos.

Finishing high school, he thought he would pursue a visual arts career so he enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute, but he soon dropped out in favor of exploring music. He has, however, successfully maintained a parallel career as a painter: Banhart's distinctive, minutely inked, often enigmatic drawings have appeared in galleries all over the world, including the Art Basel Contemporary Art Fair in Miami; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels; and Los Angeles' Museum of Contemporary Art. He has created the cover art for most of his records, including Mala, and in 2010 his artwork and packaging for What Will We Be was nominated for a Grammy.

San Francisco had an indelible influence on Banhart; the flamboyant dressing he adopted that entranced the fashion crowd (and fueled the "freak folk" and "New Weird America" labels the press attached to him) was inspired in part by the seriously subversive cross-dressing culture of San Francisco's legendary performance troupe the Cockettes.

Like Nonesuch label-mates Caetano Veloso and David Byrne, with whom he shared a stage at Carnegie Hall, Banhart has embraced an astonishingly wide range of musical ideas, from folk to blues to the avant garde. He extols the late Arthur Russell, a relentlessly eclectic artist who was impossible to pigeonhole in his brief lifetime, and Banhart has brought back into the spotlight forgotten artists like late-'60s singer Vashti Bunyan, whose psychedelic folk he championed. He has collaborated with Brazilian legends Os Mutantes, the Swans, Antony and the Johnsons, and Beck, among others, and has engaged in art projects like conceptualist Doug Aitken's monumental 2012 Song 1 video installation on the façade of the Hirschhorn Museum in Washington, DC.

For Banhart, his career remains "an adventure and an exploration." Mala reveals a natural maturation of his style, especially as a singer. Banhart admits, "I don't really take care of my voice, but, just like with playing guitar, you get more familiar with it, and you get better at it. I've always said that I'm very good at not knowing how to play the guitar but, really, it's just that I'm very comfortable with the utter uncertainty of my approach."

The Henry Clay People

After spending the better part of 2012 touring in support of our new record Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives, we, The Henry Clay People, are thrilled to announce that we are teaming up with the Songs For Kids Foundation, along with our buddies at ConsequenceOfSound. net, Buzzbands.la, Origami Vinyl, Moheak Radio, and FILTER, to bring you a very special December Residency at The Satellite. There are several reasons to celebrate: 1. This marks 10 years since the earliest incarnation of when the The HCP started bringing its brand of bratty indie rock to drunken college parties at UCSB. Since then we have played hundreds of shows throughout North America. Southern California has always been our home. Suburban born and bred. 2. Songs For Kids, a charitable organization that sends indie rocker types to perform at Children's Hospitals throughout the country, will be on hand every week to talk about what they do and how you can get involved in making a difference. Several members of the band have worked or volunteered for the organization. Songs For Kids is a wonderful organization and we believe in what they do. 3. The Henry Clays will be recording a LIVE ALBUM throughout the month. 4. You can pre-order the live album simply by donating whatever you want to the Songs For Kids Foundation at songsforkidsfoundation.org and keep a copy of the receipt. Or you can wait for the live album to be released in early 2013, at which point we'll be donating the proceeds to Songs For Kids. 5. The first 3 shows (12/3, 12/10, 12/17) are FREE! 6. The last show is on New Years Eve and is only . The Henry Clay People have a rich history of ringing in the new year at The Satellite with an always rowdy post-midnight covers set. Audience participation strongly encouraged. 7. On 12/10 we'll be doing an all HCP request set. Email requests to thehenryclaypeople@gmail.com 8. This will be end of drummer Eric Scott's 10 year tenure in the band. He will move on to pursue a career in architecture full time. 9. The lineups feature some of the best local bands and comedians that LA has to offer. This residency marks the end of an era for the HCP. We will be taking some time off after these shows to regroup, reevaluate, and catch up on some much needed sleep. We want to thank everyone who has helped us out over the past ten years: all the bands, all the folks at the shows, all the people who have shared their floor space. You are all Henry Clay People. We feel extremely lucky that we got to turn our little rock and roll hobby into a full-time thing. It was a complete accident but a very happy accident and we remain eternally grateful for the adventure.

The Cigarette Bums

Latchkey garage punks from all over CA gather for the monster they call the Cigarette Bums. Consisting of Steven Carrera and Eamon Mcginnis, and joined by Ryan Aguilar, Jaime Ramirez, and Tim "Tenor" Greenshields, the group plays "a Dylan-meets-Daniel Johnston–meets-Replacements-meets-Beefheart smash-up that's a real pleasure to watch. The Bums play repetitious, folksy stanzas with a snot-nosed, garage-band delivery, and they throw in an occasional, speedy jazz-intoned riff for flare", as says LA Weekly. With two 7 inches, a few eps, a full length on the way, and a tenacity to strive, The Bums won't stop (even after they make it to your town).

Sara Radle and the Mockingbirds
The story of Sara Radle's music career is one that began in San Antonio, Texas in the late 90's but she is probably most known for being the reason The Rentals reunited in 2005. In 1996, at the age of seventeen, she began carving out a name for herself in the Texas music scene with punk-pop trio Lucy Loves Schroeder and her own solo project. Eight years later, ex-Weezer bassist Matt Sharp played a show with her in Dallas, and very soon after, he asked her to relocate to Los Angeles, CA in 2005 to re-form The Rentals. Radle and Sharp re-built the band from the ground up, wrote some songs together, recorded the group's Last Little Life EP, and toured the world. Fans were sad to see Radle leave The Rentals in 2008, when she soon after joined Los Angeles-based indie-rock band Walking Sleep. With her September 2010 fourth solo album release, Four, it was time she returned to her true passion – writing and recording her own music.

Cinderella Motel

LA-bred Cinderella MOTEL combines the eclectic madness of 70's punk, the amped-up attitude of garage rock, and the sly sensibilities of 80's pop to create an outfit never seen around the LA scene, at least not like this. CM creates a captivating wave of sound by melting eccentric audio arrangements, breakneck tempo changes, and subversively carnal and profoundly whimsical lyrics with JFR's wailin g guitars, Guerrero's thunderous drum chops, Robles' thick-filled bass licks, and Tomahawk's full-force growling, howling yet lady-like vocals, crunchy rhythm guitar, and occasional punk-styled accordion. CM's first full-length release bolts straight out the gate with the bombastic title track 'Automatic Pleasure.' With songs like the horns-in-the-air, Sabbath-invoking 'Clearance Valentine,' the accordion-laced, punk barn burner 'Put It Out' and the hedonistic pleasure anthem 'You Were Never My Boyfriend (So Let's Dance),' Cinderella MOTEL provides the soundtrack for all of us who want to live life with the knob cranked to eleven. The album was recorded at The Cave Studio in LA by LightFM frontman Josiah Mazzaschi (William Reid-The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Blood Arm, Built to Spill) and mastered by Jon Drew in Toronto (Metric, F**ked Up, Tokyo Police Club). Basically, if Iggy, Joan Jett, The Kills and Peaches had a baby backed by the Sioux nation, you'd have Cinderella MOTEL. "Cinderella Motel's thrashy old-school squalor owes a huge debt to black-dressed songstresses of the past — fans of Siouxsie Sioux and Joan Jett, take note — with frontwoman Tammy Tomahawk juggling guitar and accordion and howling at ghosts wearing studded belts and leather collars. Or maybe they're not ghosts at all. The quartet, working on a full-length scheduled for a fall release, features thundering rhythms from bassist Dustin Robles and drummer Raul Guerrero, and appropriately shreddy licks from lead guitarist Janice Reid. L.A. once thrived on a steady diet on a steady diet of post-punk like Cinderella Motel's; now we have only occasional side dishes to make you scream like a banshee." –Kevin Bronson, Buzzbands.la Thanks for checking-in.

Reverend Horton Heat

Recently, the Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, had something along the lines of what he calls an epiphany. He's a little tired of being taken so seriously-well, maybe not seriously, exactly, but you get the idea-and lately he's noticed that some of his funnier, country-tinged songs were his biggest crowd pleasers. Besides, being entertaining is what this is all about, right? So, ladies and gents, roll your smokes up in your sleeve and hold on to your cowboy hats, it's time to take a trip back to a time before slick, over-produced country became the norm-a time when outlaws wrote songs about being without a pot to piss in-or at least about psycho exboyfriends and deadbeat girlfriends that spend your paycheck faster than you can say Lone Star. Welcome to Laughin' and Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat a record full of country-heavy tunes about bad habits, well-meaning but clueless husbands, ever-expanding beer-guts and, well, Texas. It wouldn't be a Reverend Horton Heat record without a song or-in this case, two-about the Lone Star State. And, while Laughin' and Cryin' marks a detour from the hard driving punkabilly of the Rev's last record, 2004's Revival, this time tending toward honk, there's still some shit-kickers ["Death Metal Guys"] to let you know that Heath and crew still mean business. "I really wanted to capture the feelings of recordings of the late '50s, early '60s," Heath said of the songs on the new record. Exhibit A: Beer Holder, a honky-tonker about a guy who finds the table by his chair a bit too far of a stretch-so he opts for a new "beer holder," his growing gut. While this guy finds his solution genius, his woman thinks otherwise. "[The record is] kind of from a regular guy point of view," Heath said. "You know, I like to do stuff that's kind of tongue-in-cheek that makes fun of the good old boy thing as much as trying to glorify the country boy thing." Heath originally conceived the new record as the product of an alter ego, Harley Hog, a sort of "laughing and crying" singer.

Bass Nation DC Presents The Watts Up Tour feat. Helicopter Showdown, Antiserum and Clicks & Whistles

Bass Nation DC Presents The Watts Up Tour feat. Helicopter Showdown, Antiserum and Clicks & Whistles
Event on 2013-05-02 22:00:00

Helicopter Showdown

The four person Bay Area production force known as Helicopter Showdown has earned the reputation in the underground bass music culture as "Wu Tang" of Dubstep. These West coast bass monsters have been turning heads and crashing parties worldwide with their unique blend of heavy dubstep and melodic electro house. Having dominated the Bay Area bass music scene over the past year, HS has been called out of their homeland to perform and curate events all over the country in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Baltimore, Denver, Philadelphia, Seattle, Houston, Detroit, and Las Vegas to name a few. Supported by such highly respected artists as Rusko, Borgore, Mt. Eden, Calvertron, Skism, Downlink, and Reid Speed amongst others, their music is quickly being recognized everywhere from the most distinguished UK dubstep pioneers to the smaller pockets of bassheads in middle USA. In the last year, after teaming up with close friend, collaborator, and UltraGore label mate/owner Sluggo, the HS crew smashed their way onto the Beatport charts with their debut release "The Wrestler" [Ultragore], followed by "Hostages" [Ultragore] and most recently "Holy Ghost" [Play Me] feat. MC Messinian. Recently HS has become even more of a household name in the Beatport Dubstep charts, planting themselves firm within the top 20 with their latest release "Drop It Again" with Calvertron off the "Flight or Fight EP" [Play Me]. They are currently finishing up their next Ultragore EP with Sluggo featuring the fresh vocal talents of Bryan Dallas and Young Aunde, and have a laundry list of collaborations in store that will make 2012 a marquee year for them. Helicopter Showdown also stands out from the rest of the bass community due in part to their reputation for holding their fans in the highest regard, proving their love through their consistent efforts to give away FREE music; with highly acclaimed releases "Gucci Gucci (Helicopter Showdown & IB Remix)" [US Dubstep], "Waiting" with BoyKidCloud [Squitty Bubbler], "Dramatron" [Squitty Bubbler Most Popular 2011], "Beat Down" [Squitty Bubbler Most Popular January 2011] and the classic "Whistle Tips" with Point.blank [Dubsaw/Squitty Bubbler Most Popular October 2010] all given gratis to their hungry fanbase. HS even takes it one step farther, giving away free downloads of their signature sounds and production templates. With their dedication to production, their fans, and taking their four person team onto the stage and turning any given party into a full blown event, keep a close eye on Helicopter Showdown as they bring the party from the West Coast underground to a city near you.

Antiserum

Antiserum (aka Mike Schumer) is an electronic producer and musician from San Francisco, whose originating style of West Coast bass music emerged during the dawn of the Bay Area dubstep movement. His music is characterized by the use of heavy drums, rolling bass lines, and distinct melodies, with a tight production style that gives nods to underground hip-hop, soul, nuerofunk, reggae, and metal. His live DJ performances oscillate between high-octane mixes and emotional progressions, built around new and unreleased material with a focus on high energy and dance floor appeal. Reaching a prominent international audience through Beatport in 2008, Antiserum landed the 8th best-selling dubstep track of the year. His first tour launched in 2009 to Australia and New Zealand, which set forth a whole new fan base and realm of inspiration that brought him back for a second tour two years later. By the start of 2011, he released The Swarm EP with Rottun Recordings, opened for Excision and Downlink on first full-scale dubstep production to hit the US: the 30-show Subsonic Tour. He was picked up by Caspa's Dub Police label with his collaborative renditions of the West Coast's own "purple" sound, featuring the tracks "Zephyr" and "Purple & Gold" with Los Angeles dubstep warrior 12th Planet and the multi-faceted ill-Esha. Antiserum's dynamic production style has also sparked collaborations with electronic artists Eskmo, DJG, ill-esha, Noah D, Triage, Mayhem, Dubsworth, Vinja, and Babylon System. Aside from his regular live DJ performances, Antiserum has also guest lectured and performed at Ex'pression College for Digital Arts in the Bay Area. 2012 stands as Antiserum's biggest year thus far, landing his collaborative track "Droid Prom" with live musician Dubsworth in the opening scenes of the CSI: Miami episode "Friendly Fire", and releasing his co-production with 12th Planet titled "Ghost" on The End is Near EP by Scion A/V (including tracks by Skrillex, Flinch, SPL, and Kill the Noise). Antiserum's most recent 2-track release with ill-Esha features "Overflow" & "Lightning" on the Dutch imprint, Subway and his forthcoming releases will be out to make a second impact once again on Dub Police & Rottun. His debut full-length album is currently in the works!

Clicks & Whistles

Clicks & Whistles have been carving out a unique sound blending Southern Rap, Juke, and elements of Drum & Bass since their first official release in August 2010. The Charlotte based duo is comprised of professional programmer Jorge Hernandez (Hey Whore Hey) and classically trained Petey Evans (PeteyClicks). The two have a slew of notable releases including the heavily remixed "Neva Get Caught" on T&A Records, "Cranberry Goose EP" on Distal's Atlanta based Embassy Imprint, and "Can't Believe EP" on AC Slater's Label – Party Like Us. Great taste and selection combined with honed production skills gives this group prowess in both quality and efficiency in the studio and has lead to some huge Dirty South and Club Anthem remixes. With a heavy touring schedule and a stack of upcoming releases, the sound of Clicks & Whistles is sure to be in your ears and coming to a city near you. "…a trunk-rattling approach to the hottest trends in underground electronic music." – Mishka NYC "There's just enough in this hyphy track to make me lose my shit already over Clicks & Whistles' upcoming EP." – Noisey Music by VICE Magazine "Dirty South samples and soaring video game synths slice through the air on these tracks" – FACT Magazine "…offers a massive-yet-soothing bassline with its innumerable layers of cosmic melodies." – XLR8R "[Southern Slaw] fits in perfectly with its twisted beats that engages you with its big bombastic concoction. It's so big that it'll hypnotize you into a dancing frenzy within the first few seconds." – Prefix
