Thoughts About Online Dating Services to Help Find Lovers, Mates, Sweethearts

I know people who have met over the Internet and found a woman or a man and managed to develop loving or caring relationships. There were others that didn’t because they didn’t set any goals.

It’s extremely important to realize one must first determine what it is you are looking for among the possibilities that may or will appear. Some serious soul searching must be accomplished first.

What do you want to get out of it? a permanent mate, a lover, a date or a companion, you get the idea? Anything that enters your mind can be applicable.

Just don’t dive into trying to get a one on one date because you’re impatient. You may end up disappointed and sorry. You might end up becoming a cause of consternation to your potential new friend. Bide your time in getting to know someone.

Most dating or matching services want you fill out a profile of yourself. This is one of the most important factors that will help in finding that future lover or sweetheart of your heart’s desire. A profile used correctly may help you find him/her. Your profile will help find you.

Caution! The picture presented to you might be an old photo taken 15 years ago. A woman of about 39 years met a man but at first didn’t recognize him. She couldn’t believe her eyes. He now had a mustache and looked like Hitler. He also was in his 60′s. It didn’t work out.

Try out several descriptions under different names. Remembering anonymity is a two way street. So how will one know if that photo is the latest or a recent? You won’t until you both meet.

Be cautious and have patience. Learn to be a listener. Don’t go overboard selling yourself. Learn about each other. Leave an enticing air of mystery about you. You may find it results in a chemical reaction when you both meet

At first use e-mail to communicate or send a message. Use caution and do not give your telephone number too soon. You don’t want to harassed by weirdo’s or unhappy prospects.

A profile is the first shot for folks to decide whether or not they would have an interest. It makes good sense that you design and create a profile as captivating as possible. As an example: A long time ago when I was a young man, I went to a local dance. Who did I ask for a dance? Of course it was the prettiest girl that I hoped to get a date with. So if I presented an attractive presentation she would dance with me. If I were successful, I might get that date.

Be different, be original, be unique

Do some research, read as many profiles as you can and you’ll be amused and enlightened. You’ve got the chance to demonstrate that you’re unique. If possible use different terminology to show your originality. Stay away from the old clichés such as taking walks on the beach. Or, willing to climb the highest mountain for the right person.

Have a Fabulous (and realistic) Photo

A fantastic but tasteful photo is a tremendous asset for your endeavor. No not your driver’s license or passport photo. Make sure your photo is clear and professional. Don’t settle for a simple head shot – there’s no rule to say you can’t be doing something you love in your photo. Smile, smile and smile, you want to look confident. If you are a guy with a beard be certain it’s neat and trimmed ditto for your hair. If you are a gal the same goes for your hair. Don’t overdo the makeup. Be certain your photo is recent.

Make sure the reader can understand it

Using the same terminology as you would when texting a friend should be a no no. The jargon or lexicon may be quite different. If you are not sure, plain old English is the best. Some dating websites have a legend of terminology to provide a level of commonality

Be factual and truthful

In your profile describe your personality real world. If you are a big shot, be a big shot. If you have a great sense of humor, have a sense of humor. If you describe yourself as something you’re not, you can be sure it’s going to bite you on the butt. Remember you are living in the real world. There’s nothing wrong with having a friend or a relative review your profile and be willing to take constructive criticism.

You are not writing an autobiography

A description that is too long will be boring and very possibly detrimental to your efforts. Read you profile and time how long it takes to read it. Read other profiles and time how long it takes to make the point. Note if you are bored, or uninterested or whatever. Don’t let your profile appear in the same fashion to an interested prospect. Try to keep an average reading time from 50 to 90 seconds and not more.

Don’t unveil anything out of the ordinary about yourself

What would you think if your prospective honey said, he/she enjoys running with the bulls every year? I think you get the idea.

Be sure to use correct spelling and grammar

Don’t make the mistake of not proof reading what you have written. Modern word processors have the ability to check spelling and grammar. You don’t want your prospects to think you are a dodo.

Don’t make it sound like you are an egotist

Your best points are the ones to highlight but with humility. You must remember to leave enough space to describe the person you would like find and meet. Form a description but respectful and realistic depiction of your ideal mate. Two words to keep in mind when describing the person you are looking for are, be realistic and respectful. Be completely honest about the personality and physical attributes or traits you are searching for but do so politely.

Be honest and up front about your state in life and what you are looking for

Have kids or are divorced or widowed, don’t hide these facts. Most will find out the truth eventually so you might as well disclose it up front. Look at other profiles on adult and you will see the honesty portrayed.
